PRESS RELEASE: Confirmation of Registers
PRESS RELEASE
Confirmation of Registration as Electors Begins September 1, 2025
Roseau, Dominica-May 22, 2025:
The Electoral Commission has declared September 1, 2025, as the commencement date for confirmation of registered voters.
The exercise which will continue until August 31, 2026, is being undertaken in accordance with Section 50(1) of the recently passed Registration of Electors Act. The new Act mandates that a confirmation period of no less than twelve months must be declared following the effective date of the Act.
The Act which was gazette on the 25th day of March, 2024, came into effect on the same date.
According to Section 50 (1) of the Act:
"As soon as practicable after the effective date and in any event not later than sixty days thereafter, the Commission shall by order, declare a period not less than twelve months, to be the confirmation period for the purpose of this Part and may, in like manner, extend the period so declared, so, however, that the period initially declared together with any extension thereof shall not exceed fifteen months."
The confirmation process is part of the modernization of Dominica’s electoral laws. This reform process involved the passage of three pieces of legislation in the Dominica Parliament on March 19, 2025:
- Registration of Electors Act, 2024
- House of Assembly Election Bill, 2024
- Electoral Commission Act, 2024
These laws were enacted to strengthen the integrity, transparency and overall efficiency of the electoral process in Dominica.
Under the Registration of Electors Act, all eligible voters are required to confirm their registration within the designated period in order to remain on the official list of electors.
The Electoral Commission anticipates that all registered electors will participate fully in this process to ensure their continued eligibility to vote and to support the enhancement of Dominica’s democratic processes.
According to the Commission, several confirmation centres will be set up in constituencies across Dominica to facilitate the process. The location of these centres will be published in the media and on the Electoral Office's website.
