Appointment of Returning Officer Canefield

The general public, in particular residents within the municipal limits of the Canefield Urban Council, are informed that Ms. Josette Matthew of Canefield is appointed Returning Officer, for the Council’s General Election, scheduled for Monday, September 12, 2016.

 

Nomination Day is Tuesday, August 23, 2016. On that day, prospective candidates should obtain the nomination papers from the Returning Officer at the Council’s office in Canefield from 8:00 a.m.  The completed nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer no later than 4:00 p.m. on that same day.

 

Every candidate must be designated by his full name and residence on the nomination paper, by two qualified voters in the municipality. The nominee must express his consent to the nomination in writing, on the said nomination paper.

 

Every candidate must deliver, or cause to be delivered, to the Returning Officer at the time of presenting his nomination paper, a declaration in writing signed by him, stating the qualifications which he possesses as provided by the Canefield Urban Council Act.

 

A candidate, or someone on his behalf, must deposit the sum of fifty dollars (EC$50.00) in cash, with the Returning Officer. If he fails to do so, he shall be deemed to have withdrawn.

 

Any person whose name appears on the register of voters, may object to the nomination of any candidate for election, as not being duly qualified, and the Returning Officer shall decide the validity of the objection.
