Employers to allow Employees Time For Voting

SECTION 50 (1):

        “Every employer shall, on polling day, allow to every elector employed by him the prescribed period for voting and no employer shall make any deduction from the pay or other remuneration of any such elector or impose upon or exact from him any penalty by reason of his absence during such period”.

 

SECTION 50 (2):

 

        “ Any employer who, directly or indirectly, refuses, or by intimidation, undue influence, or in any other way, interferes with the granting to any elector employed by him of the prescribed period for voting as in this section provided, is liable on summary conviction to a fine of five thousand dollars or to imprisonment for six months”.

 

SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION – SECTION 6:

 

        “ Every employer shall permit each elector in his employ to be absent from his work on polling day for two hours in addition to the normal mid- day meal hour”.
